Kevin O’Leary Calls for Urgent Crypto Regulation to Spur Institutional Adoption
Kevin O’Leary, chairman of O’Leary Ventures, has issued a stark demand for increased regulatory clarity in the cryptocurrency sector. Speaking at Consensus 2025 in Toronto, O’Leary argued that the lack of robust regulation is stifling institutional investment. "I never thought I’d say this, but I want more regulation and I want it now," he declared.
The crypto industry’s assets under management (AUM) have plateaued, a trend O’Leary attributes to regulatory uncertainty. Sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, and institutional investors remain hesitant to commit significant capital without clearer rules. O’Leary singled out newly appointed SEC Chairman Paul Atkins as a potential ally, noting Atkins’ early signals of crypto-friendly policies.
